Description

Genetic counseling and testing for patients at risk of hereditary cancer is an important consideration for any physician who may be involved in diagnosing these conditions. Among matters to consider for MPL are the relative accuracy of the tests, the requisite follow-up, the potential clinical decisions to be made based on the test results, and the related issues of costs and unnecessary treatment.

This webinar will provide an overview of the cancers known to be linked to genetic mutations and the current guides for screening at-risk patients. In addition, the speakers will present case studies— MPL lawsuits— and, based on what happened in these cases, make an estimate of the potential exposure that MPL carriers could be facing in insuring physicians who use these tests. The presentation will conclude with practical strategies that MPL carriers can use as they consider the possible risks entailed in genetic testing.
